No FFH for me this week?

I spoke to my dealer about getting me the sterling gray FFH from another dealer near by.  They claimed that this would probably invalidate my Mar 31 order.

To me, this seems somewhat unlikely.  Why would the IRS care about how my order was fulfilled?

What do you think?

I think it invalidates your order because you ordered a specific vehicle. In order for the IRS to honor your rebate, I would think they would want to see information from order to delivery, showing the same vehicle. Otherwise, you could use a pre-3/31 order as a way to shop around, get a better price, and circumvent the requirement to buy the car before the rebate gets cut in half.

Hmmm, except I'm not shopping around, just looking for a dealer swap.

I think that dealer is either very small, inexperienced, or lazy. I've talked with many dealers that said they would find a car and it wouldn't effect the order. I would probably talk with some other dealers and then when you have better information got back and talk with your dealer. Dealers swamp cars all the time. Mine told me that they could find any car for me that I want within a week and that they rarely ever 'order' cars for people anymore like they used to in the old days. In any event, I hope you find the car that you want soon so you can start enjoying it.

I think I will call them again. They didn't say they would not swap, only that it may affect my $3400 tax credit.
