First impressions

Well, I've been playing for a few hours. Still getting to know everything.  My gas mileage is not spectacular but is in the 35-40 range without really trying to conserve gas.  Mostly back roads driving with traffic.

Before I forget here's a picture of the new family member:

The technology in this thing is awesome. I didn't know it will play DVDs when you're parked! Really cool. So many ways to play music that its almost overwhelming. AM, FM, Sirius, USB, Bluetooth, CD, DVD, Jukebox. Whew!  I've been listening to some old favorites and the stereo sound is awesome.

Here's the inside scoop:

One thing I will say, it's not the smoothest ride on the road.  I went over a section of washboard near work that I had never even noticed before in the old Audi and was very surprised at how rough it was.

I'm off on a business trip tomorrow for two days, will post more detailed impressions when I return.

Nice wheels! I'm curious to see what kind of mileage you get with average driving. Its bigger that I thought it would be.

Steve,

Yes its a regular mid-size sedan. My overall mileage is only 25mpg but that's because I've spent a few hours sitting in it and playing ;-)

Mileage going to work today was 42.

Ha, I ma older than you. Picked mine up on Friday. Fully loaded Brilliant Silver. Wish I had an 11 y/o to remember what and where I read something in the manual or to be there to read what the manual says. ONLY after you figure out how to do something, the instructions are very clear. As you get older, one tends to skip every 2nd word.

Go to the left-hand HOME ICON on the bottom of the screen and the leaves will come up on. You can scroll on the left > or right > bottom of the home screen to see what other displays are. Go to page 22 of the Navigation Manual and figure out how to get pictures into the system. When you give up after you have put in the CD with JPGs, use the left > on the Home screen to get the leave emblem and tap on the Leaves and voula, a whole new set of menus. Tis

Rob,

Yeah, I haven't even gotten to pictures yet. It's dumb that you have to burn a CD to put pictures on it when there's a USB port for a flash drive you could put pictures on.

SWEET!

I tell ya, after driving these Power Split Device-equipped cars like the Fusion Hybrid, I am NEVER going back to a regular car.

The other day I had to drive my uncle's old Jeep Cherokee to rent a ladder from Home Depot, and I can hear the brakes squeak when coming to a stop. I miss regenerative braking. :-) And there I was, disappointed that the engine in that Jeep didn't shut off when I braked to a stop, LOL. PRIMITIVE!

If I need an SUV in the future, it's going to be a Ford Escape Hybrid.

Bill, I believe we live fairly close to one another.

I have had my FFH for about two weeks, and I have had the exact opposite reaction in terms of smooth ride. I traded in a 91 Ford Ranger (190,000 miles) and I knew every pothole on my commute to work. My FFH is infinitely smoother, there is no comparison really.

Looks very nice, that is also the color I have on order, but I have the light stone interior (looks like yours is the darker one?).

My 2 choices were narrowed down to silver or gray, my wife's Escape Hybrid is silver and I didn't want 2 silver cars so that was what tipped the scale. I would have have OK with either. I have always said I would never get a white car or black car, either one is too tough to keep nice looking since they show dirt so much -- but I saw that link from another poster and that white model sure looked good!

Kevin, no surprise there! ;-)

Jeff, yes I have the charcoal black interior. I wish it was true black like my old Audi but its still very nice. My Audi was silver, I did not want another silver car; and white doesn't do it for me although that posted pic looks really nice. I was going to get the Atlantis green but it was almost black. The FFH gray is very nice, just the right shade and with a sparkle in it. I really like it.

Bill.. have you checked the tire pressures? Perhaps they're too high. However, coming from an Audi A6 you're bound to be spoiled as that car is very smooth. I used to own an Audi Allroad (2002) and that is essentially the same chassis/vehicle dynamics. I am sure it is smoother than the Prius. I would bet that when it comes time to change tires you put on some really good rubber that will give you a smoother ride in exchange for a small MPG hit. I did that with my Prius and got Goodyear Tripletreds. GREAT TIRE!!

I checked the pressures and they are all at 35; recommended pressure on the door sill is 33 (or 32?). Some are pumping them up to 40 or above for that bit extra mpg but I'm not going to do that.

I think you're right about the Audi, it has a very smooth ride.

The tires on the FFH are low rolling resistance tires; are they significantly rougher than a "regular" tire?
